Devices Tab
The Devices Tab in Classroom is used for
1. Inventory Management
It provides a high-level overview of all registered hardware (primarily Chromebooks). The table is designed to track:
Serial Numbers: Unique identifiers for every device.
Models: Distinguishing between different hardware versions.
OS Versions: Monitoring which devices need updates to ensure they remain compatible with classroom tools.
2. Recovery & Security
Next to the "Chrome Devices" sub-tab, there is a Lost Chrome Device Recovery option. This is used to:
Track down missing or stolen hardware.
Manage "Lost Mode" settings to protect school data and render the device unusable by unauthorized parties.
1. Activating Lost Mode
Purpose: Lost Mode helps recover lost or stolen Chromebooks by launching a kiosk app that displays a message notifying users the device is lost.
How to Activate: You can activate Lost Mode directly from Securly Classroom by selecting the device and flipping the Lost Mode switch on the Device Details page.
2. Deactivating Lost Mode
Purpose: Deactivates Lost Mode for devices that have been found, allowing normal use to resume.
How to Deactivate: Select the device in the Lost Chrome Device Recovery tab and toggle the Lost Mode switch off. This will remove the device from Lost Mode and allow its normal functionality.
3. Lost Chrome Device Recovery
Purpose: This tab displays all devices that are currently in Lost Mode. It helps administrators track and manage lost devices.
Features:
Device Status: Devices will appear with the status "Lost," allowing you to view their details.
Tracking: You can see the last known location and previous IP addresses for the device, as well as screenshots captured from it.
Editing Options: You can edit specific options like the Lost Mode message or rename the device.
4. Chrome Devices
Overview: This section within the Devices Tab allows you to view and manage all Chrome devices linked to your Google account within Securly Classroom.
Information Available: Details such as serial number, OS version, recent users, and device status are accessible to help manage your fleet effectively.
