How does the Activity Cap work in Flex?
The activity cap is simply the maximum number of students who can be in a Flex activity. It is set by the teacher who owns the activity — not by an administrator or by any access-control setting.
How the cap is set
- The teacher sets the cap. When a teacher creates or edits an activity, they choose its maximum number of students. That number is the activity cap.
- Mandated activities: If an activity is mandated (students are required to attend), the number of students mandated is the activity cap. The mandate fills the seats.
Multiple activities in the same room
If a teacher runs more than one activity in the same room during the same Flex period, the system watches the choice sign-ups across those activities so the room capacity is respected. In other words, the individual activity caps still apply, and the system also makes sure the combined sign-ups don't exceed how many students the room can hold.
Not the same as a Controlled Access Period (CAP)
The activity cap has nothing to do with a "Controlled Access Period." It is only the seat limit on an activity. Don't confuse the activity cap with access-control or group-permission settings on a Flex period.
