Chrome Side-by-Side Pages May Be Unviewable in Classroom

Chrome's side-by-side web page feature can present one pane as a Chrome-owned page, such as chrome://newtab. When that pane is active, Securly Classroom may show it as unviewable instead of displaying the student's screen.

Why Classroom cannot view or close the pane

Chrome does not allow extensions to capture or control protected browser pages such as chrome:// pages. Classroom therefore cannot independently display or close that side-by-side pane. This is a Chrome limitation, not necessarily a student-device connection issue.

What to do during a class

• Ask the student to leave the side-by-side view and switch to a normal website tab.
• Use Push URL to open a normal website for the student.
• After a normal website becomes the active tab, confirm that the screen preview becomes visible again.

If normal website tabs also remain unviewable, continue troubleshooting the device connection separately.
