How to Prevent Teachers from Adding Non-Rostered Students to Manual Classes

As an administrator, you control whether teachers can add any students to their manual classes, or only students who are already rostered to them in another class. This is governed by a single org-wide setting, "Teachers can only add students to classes from existing rosters," found under Settings > System > Classroom.

The setting is off by default, and it works in both directions:

• To allow teachers to add any students (not just their rostered students): leave the setting off, or turn it off if it is currently on. This is the default behavior — no additional per-teacher or per-role permission needs to be enabled to let teachers add students.
• To restrict teachers to only their rostered students: turn the setting on. Once activated, teachers will only see their rostered students when they attempt to add students while creating or editing a manual class.
