AI Chat
Enabling staff access to student AI chat activity
Admins can grant teachers access to the AI transparency dashboard and their students' chat transcripts by enabling the 'Teacher Access' setting in the Policy Editor page, but this requires Securly Sync integration with the school's SIS. The other way is to use Faculty Groups.
With Faculty Group, you can let teachers and other staff review student AI chat activity without being full administrators and without needing an SIS role mapping. Admins can set it up by adding staff to a Faculty Group in Securly Filter. AI Chat then recognizes those staff members automatically when they sign in with their school account.
Note
Adding a staff member to a Faculty Group does not grant control over student access to AI Chat. It only allows them to monitor student AI chat interactions.
Faculty Group membership does not grant access to the AI Chat Policy Editor. That remains limited to administrators.
Before you begin, ensure 'Enhanced Privacy' is turned off in Securly AI Chat's Policy Editor page. When it is on, administrators and teachers, including Faculty Group members, can only see their own conversations.
Set up Faculty Group access
Sign in to the Securly Filter.
Create a new Faculty Group or select an existing one in the Users page.
Add the staff members' school email addresses to the group.
Assign the required Google OUs or Security Groups the Faculty group should oversee.
Save your changes.
For detailed steps on group creation, refer to the Faculty Groups section of the Filter user guide.
No action is needed in Securly AI Chat itself to grant staff access to student AI chat activity, and staff cannot enable it for themselves.
