Pass › Tardy Management
Does Pass connect to my SIS for attendance and tardies?
Short answer: Pass does not connect to your Student Information System (SIS) to pull in attendance. It does not read your SIS attendance data on its own to decide who was late. Instead, your school can send Pass a file of tardy information from your SIS, and Pass uses that file the same way it uses tardies captured any other way.
Sending tardy information from your SIS
Use Tardy CSV Upload to bring your SIS tardies into Pass. Admin users can open Tardy CSV Upload and bulk upload a formatted spreadsheet of tardies generated from your SIS. It works for both Late to School (LTS) and Late to Class (LTC) tardies, and sample LTC and LTS files are available in the system so you can match the format.
Import the file before the end of the school day. As long as the tardy data is imported before the end of the day, Pass awards PBIS points correctly. Build the upload into your end-of-day routine so it is never missed.
Absences are not used by Pass
Pass does not take absences into account, so there is no need to import daily absent data. Only Late to School and Late to Class tardies affect Pass functionality, including PBIS points.
Ways to capture tardies in Pass
The SIS file is one of several options, and schools can use one or a combination:
- CSV Upload — upload LTS or LTC tardies from a file, such as one exported from your SIS.
- Teacher Pass — a teacher marks a pass as Late to School or Late to Class.
- Kiosk — tardy students mark themselves late at the front office or a classroom kiosk.
- Student Late Pass — students create their own late pass, and the system instantly approves and ends it to log the exact arrival time.
To turn this on, go to the Control Panel > Modules and make sure Tardy Management is toggled On.
Getting tardy data back out of Pass
This goes the other direction: Pass can automatically export tardy data to your school's SFTP folder at 12:15 am local time each day, which you can retrieve and use as needed. Your team needs a script to move that data from the SFTP folder into your SIS. The file does not automatically update your SIS.
