How to Add Admins for Each Securly Product
If you are the first administrator set up on your district's Securly account, you can grant admin access to colleagues yourself — you do not need to contact Securly for most products. Admin access is managed separately in each product, so adding someone as an admin in Securly Filter does not give them admin access in Pass, Flex, Classroom, or Reveal.
This article covers where to go for each product. Use the table to jump to the product you need.

Securly Filter
Filter admin access is controlled by the Admin Group. When the Admin Group is enabled, only the users in that group can access the Securly UI — regardless of whether they are Super Admins in Google Workspace. This is the recommended way to control who has access.
To add an admin using the Admin Group:
- Log in to Securly Filter and navigate to Users.
- Select Admin Group. If the group does not exist yet, click Create admin group.
- Click the checkboxes for the users you want to grant access to, then select Grant access. You will see 'Admin access granted successfully' on the screen.
- Click Add User to add new users to the group.
Important notes:
- If there are multiple super admins, the first super admin to enable this feature can exclude the other super admins from the group. Confirm who should be in the group before you enable it.
- If the Admin Group is not set up, anyone with "All OUs" access in Google Workspace will have admin access to the Securly portal.
- You can turn the feature off with Disable Admin Group, which returns access to everyone holding the Super Admin role in Google Workspace.
Admin permissions in Google Workspace or Azure also affect access to Securly. For the full mapping between Google Workspace roles and Securly roles, see Securly Filter Logins with Google Workspace roles. Full details on the Admin Group are in How to Grant Access to Other Users in Securly.
Giving partial access instead of full admin
If a colleague only needs to monitor activity, view student activity reports, or receive email alerts — rather than manage policies — add them to a Faculty Group instead of the Admin Group:
- Log in to Securly Filter or Securly Aware.
- Navigate to Users > Faculty groups.
- Click Create faculty Group, then enter the group name and the email addresses of the teachers or staff to include, separated by commas.
- Select the checkboxes for the tabs you want the Faculty Group users to receive alerts on.
- Assign OUs to the group. Faculty group users will only see reports for students in the OUs you select.
To add someone to an existing Faculty Group, click the (...) icon on the right side of the screen, then click Add User and enter their email address. Only a Securly admin can create, edit, and delete Faculty Groups. See How do I set up Faculty Groups? for the complete walkthrough.
Securly Aware
Aware has its own Admin Group, which works exactly like the one in Filter: log in to Securly Aware, navigate to Users, select Admin Group and click Create admin group, then use the checkboxes and Grant access — followed by Add User to add more people. While enabled, only users in the group can access Securly Aware, regardless of their Google Workspace Super Admin status. See Admin Group in the Aware guide.
Faculty Groups can be created from either product — log in to Securly Filter or Securly Aware and go to Users > Faculty groups. Aware-specific options include flagged activity and Google/Azure scanning email alerts, where you set confidence levels to control your email alert threshold. Setting a confidence level only affects which alerts are emailed; Securly continues to flag all activity and log it in the Activities tab.
You can also limit how much of the Aware console a faculty group member sees, using the Settings tab for that faculty group. If you unselect every option under 'Select type of activity to show', those members will not have access to the Aware console at all. Note that if someone belongs to multiple faculty groups, their access is the combination of the settings for each group they belong to. See Can I restrict faculty group users from accessing Aware?
Securly Classroom
To assign a user the Organization Admin role in Securly Classroom:
- Navigate to the Users tab in Securly Classroom.
- Locate the user whose role you want to change.
- Click the user to open their profile.
- Change the user's role to Organization Admin.
See How to Assign Organization Admin Rights in Securly Classroom.
If the person is not in Classroom yet
The Users tab manages everyone who can log in to Securly Classroom, including administrators, technicians, and teachers. Click Add User and you will be offered three options — adding a new user manually, uploading a CSV, or importing from your Google Directory.
- Add New User — select the school location for the user. You can optionally require them to create a new password on login, and send a notification email when the account is created.
- Import from CSV — useful for roles that do not come through your existing sync, such as substitute teachers. A CSV import can also be used to change roles, including promoting users to a role with more permissions, which is handy when you need to promote several admins at once.
- Import user from Google directory — select the organizational unit, optionally include sub-OUs, and assign a school location.
Adding users requires the relevant permission for your role, which is controlled under Settings > Permissions. See Managing Users and Permissions in the Classroom guide.
Securly Pass
Pass uses four adult roles. Admin is the role that grants access to the Control Panel and system settings management:
- Admin — access to the Main Navigation Menu, Control Panel, and system settings management.
- Teacher — access to the Main Navigation Menu.
- Staff — access to the Main Navigation Menu (for nurses, librarians, SROs, counselors, and similar roles).
- Student — access to the Student Menu only.
To promote an existing user to Admin (you must have Admin access yourself):
- Navigate to Admin Control Panel > Users > Main Users.
- Search for the user you want to update.
- Click Edit, located under the blue drop-down caret in the action column.
- Adjust the user role.
- Click Update to save.
Roles in Pass are "sticky" — once an administrator manually changes a role, it will not revert when a third-party sync runs. See Managing User Roles.
If the person is not in Pass yet
Before adding anyone directly in Pass — including a principal, assistant principal, or other administrator — first add them to your district's Securly Sync, Clever, or ClassLink roster and assign the administrator role there. That keeps their access current through your normal sync. Use the Main Users screen only when the person cannot be provided through your rostering integration.
To add a user manually: go to Admin Control Panel > Users > Main Users, click the arrow in the Add User box, select Yes on the confirmation popup, then complete the form — set Role to Admin, enter their name and school-domain email address, and leave Password blank for SSO users. Keep Prevent Archive checked so the user is not archived during your next automated third-party sync.
Manually-added users can log in with Google or Microsoft SSO, but Pass admins must manually archive them when they no longer need access — they will not be removed automatically by your sync. See Manually Add a User.
Securly Flex
Admins can change user roles in Flex:
- Go to My School Settings > Users.
- Click the pencil icon to edit the user.
- Adjust the role to Admin.
The role change will stick regardless of how the user is shared through a third-party API such as Clever, ClassLink, or GG4L. If you upload users with a user file, remember to adjust the role in the file as well, or the next upload will overwrite it.
The Admin role is the only adult role with access to My School Settings, Simulate Users, Contact Control, and Flex Cancellation. See Can I change a teacher to have "Admin" role access? for the full role comparison.
Securly Home
Securly Home lets administrators delegate responsibilities such as adding parents, adjusting parental controls, customizing activity reports, and managing email notifications.
- Log in to your Securly Home account and navigate to the Users section.
- Click Add user(s) and enter the email addresses of the users you want to add, separated by commas.
- Click Add.
To remove a user's admin access, click the delete icon next to their name. See How to Grant Admin Access to Users in Securly Home.
Securly Reveal
In Reveal, administrators manage user roles from Admin Settings. The steps below create a new user or change an existing user's role — for example, to grant the Tech Coach role and scope it to specific schools.
- Log in to Reveal as an Administrator.
- Click the gear icon; you will be redirected to Admin Settings.
- In the Users tab, search for an existing user or click Create New User.
- Enter or edit the user information in the Create User (or Edit User) modal.
- Use the Schools drop-down menu to assign the user to specific schools. To select multiple schools, click the first school name and then open the drop-down again.
- Click Save.
See How to Add a Tech Coach and Assign Schools in Dyknow.
Securly MDM
The Users tab controls who can log in to the Securly MDM console — typically administrators and teachers, but not students. Each user is assigned to a single role, and each role has a set of permissions configured under Settings > Permissions.
To add an admin:
- Navigate to Users and click the Add User button.
- Enter the email address of the user.
- Create a password for the user, or choose to have the system generate one automatically.
- Choose your options for requiring a password change and notifying the user of their new account.
- Select a role for the user. Each user can only be assigned to a single role.
- Enter a first and last name, and optionally any notes about this user.
- For any role other than Org Admin, give the user access to at least one school location using the School Access section. Click the "+" icon to choose one or more schools.
- Click Save in the top right corner.
The available roles are Teacher, Technician, School Admin, and Org Admin. Org Admins always have every permission available and are not limited to specific school locations. In the Permissions screen, a greyed-out box means the feature is disabled for that role and cannot be enabled.
See Users and Permissions in the MDM guide.
Products where access is not self-serve
Securly Sync
Access to the Securly Sync UI is granted by Securly, not from within the product. Each user needs a Google account protected by Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and must consent to the data sharing terms.
To request access, submit a request through Securly Support including the user's Google account email, confirmation that MFA is enabled, and a statement consenting to the data sharing terms. Securly will review the consent and activate access, after which the user can log in with that Google account. See How to access Securly Sync UI.
Securly On-Call
On-Call does not have its own admin console — its configuration is managed through Aware, so grant Aware admin access using the steps above.
Note that On-Call contacts are a different thing from admins. On-Call contacts are the school and district staff who receive On-Call alerts and escalations; adding someone as an On-Call contact does not give them admin access to any Securly product, and making someone an admin does not add them to your On-Call escalation list. If you need to review or update who receives On-Call alerts, search the On-Call section of this knowledge base for contact configuration articles.
Before you finish
- Grant access product by product. There is no single screen that makes someone an admin everywhere — repeat the process in each product they need.
- Prefer your roster where one exists. For Pass and Flex, assigning the role in Securly Sync, Clever, or ClassLink keeps access accurate as staff change. Add users manually only when your rostering integration cannot provide them.
- Consider partial access. For Filter and Aware, a Faculty Group gives colleagues reporting and alerting without full policy control.
- Remove access when people leave. Manually-added Pass users and Filter Admin Group members are not removed automatically by your sync.
If you cannot find the option described here, your account may be configured differently — contact Securly Support and we will point you to the right screen.
